WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Old

Yes, I’m getting a late start on last week’s challenge, but better late than never! This past week’s WordPress Photo Challenge theme was Old, and having just returned from Italy, I had plenty of “old” to choose from, but I wanted to shoot for the less obvious, so how about this: Old Graffiti!

WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Light

What photographer doesn’t love light? And while natural light is absolutely lovely, I wanted something different for this challenge:

Chile by Air: Pacific Ocean off the coast of Colchagua in central Chile

This week’s Photo Challenge theme just popped up in my email: Ocean.
Ah! In Chile that’s a piece of cake! Here’s a favorite, taken from a small plane over the Pacific Ocean just off the coast of Colchagua in central Chile. Continue reading

WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Shadow of Venice

Wordpress Weekly Photo Theme: "Shadows"
Venice, if ever a city conveyed a sense of shadows, this is it. A labyrinthine city of narrow passages that come to an unannounced halt at the water’s edge, where the sun only shines fully at noon, a city that revels in its own shadows.

Cachando Chile does Italy: Rome by the Book

Accordian in Trastevere, Rome

Classic Rome: Accordion player in Trastevere

Amazing. If I had to describe Italy in one word, Amazing would be pretty high on my list of adjectives. So would intense, beautiful, hunger-producing (see that great trick? one little hyphen lets me sneak an extra word in there!). All of this is a round-about way of getting to my point, which is… it’s not easy to figure out where to start sharing the experience. So how about the by the book version? Continue reading

Chile’s Bicentennial Naval Review

Let’s face it, with 2,700 miles of coastline, Chile is a maritime country, and the national Armada (that’s Navy) pulls some weight. This year’s Bicentennial Celebrations included a Naval Review. Some 300 ships from Chile and 5 other countries participated, and the Air Force joined in for good measure.

Although the Parada Militar (check out images of that from last year) takes place every year, this is just the 13th Naval Review–the first took place 100 years ago to mark the Centennial Celebration.  Continue reading

Valparaíso by Trolley

What’s summer without a bit of travel, exploration, fun, and tourism? “Valparaíso en un Trolley” dishes out a bit of all that and more. Theater troupe Teatro de la Historia fills the seats of a 1950s-era green and yellow “trolebus” and rolls out on a tour that takes delightful jabs at the city’s characters while simultaneously conveying pride in this one-of-a-kind city.

Trolebuses de Chile in Valparaíso date to 1952 Continue reading
