Sunset over Concón

This week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge theme is “Red,” and man have I got some red for you!

Sunset over Concon, Chile

Sunset over Concón, Chile

One of the perks of living in Chile is getting to spend plenty of time watching the sun set over the Pacific. This is the evening view from one of our favorite spots in Concón, just north of Valparaíso and Viña del Mar.

The winter sun sets over the ocean (in the summer it goes down to the far left of this image). This shot was taken at 6:10 PM on July 19, 2009 with a Canon 40D and a 16-35 mm L lens at 1/160 sec and f 5.0.

  1. Gorgeous sunset. Makes me jealous.

  2. Wow, what a stunning sunset!
I keep trying to persuade Mr Piglet to go to the beach with a bottle of wine and watch the sun go down…seeing this it’s gonna be next week for sure!

  3. Hi Pip–hope this shot is good for the nudge! There’s a nice hotel down the road (just around that bend) with a gorgeous terrace where we often go to have a drink as the sun goes down… such a wonderful way to end the day 8and start the night!).

  4. What a beautiful sunset! I wish I could see it for real!

  5. I love those sunsets… Marmotita and I have seen many together. We saw one just like this one in Horcón, with some shrimp/cheese empanadas … Mmmmm! Good memories, beautiful sunsets, great empanadas, all with the person you love the most, what else a marmot could ever want?

  6. I love the texture of the clouds, and the playfulness of the colours.

  7. it looks surreal but I know there are sunsets like these – amazing!

  8. Absolutely beautiful!

  11. Thanks everyone!
@Marmo- I KNOW I wrote a response to your comment, but where, oh where, did it go? Just said that I’ve tried those shrimp & cheese empanadas in Horcón and can agree–a perfect setting for sharing a sunset with your “media naranja”!
@Barb- Thanks for being so faithful!
@Thorny Rose–I didn’t know you were in Chile! Have we met personally?

  14. Great sunset Margaret.
Here’s a cool thing to try. get a silhouette in the foreground of a sunset and that makes an interesting image. I was recently on Rapa Nui (Easter Island and had some Moais pose for me in front of some amazing sunsets.

  15. Thanks Matt! I actually do have some shots of Cristian in silhouette playing guitar on the balcony with the setting sun behind, but not from this set.
Love your Rapa Nui collection! (Very obliging of the maois to just line up like that for you!)
Hm, come to think of it, my favorite silhouette (that I’ve done) is of Rapa Nui dancers against a deep late evening blue-gray sky.
